Practice for Gestalt Therapy

My website gives an overview of the different possibilities for therapy, my approach and how I work. I also hope it triggers your curiosity to know more.

How I work

Experience and expertise

Experience and expertise

In 2006 I set up my practice for Gestalt therapy, beginning with individual therapy and in 2009 I started working with couples. In addition to my therapy practice, I am a consultant, trainer and coach in the field of leadership development and team development within organisations. My work focusses on the world ‘beneath the surface’ of every day interactions and dynamics. (See: beneaththesurface). For the last four years I have developed and facilitated (personal) leadership courses and management team programmes for managers in the Handicap Care sector.

I have always been interested in how people connect and disconnect with both themselves and with others. This dynamic of relating fascinates me. As a Gestalt therapist, I pay attention to how people make contact, which means consciously attending to the relationship between me and my client.

I did my Gestalt therapy training with the Dutch Foundation for Gestalt Therapists (Nederlandse Stichting Gestalt), and Middlesex University in London. I have a recognized diploma (MSc) in Gestalt Psychotherapy and followed additional training in developmental psychology, DSM/pathological diagnosis and Basic Medical Knowledge.

In 2013/14 I followed a professional course for couples therapy at the ‘School voor Relatietherapie’ by Jan Lens and May Michielsen. Elements of the course included, amongst many, EFT: Emotion(ally) Focussed Therapy (Sue Johnson) and Differentiation in relationship (David Schnarch). In 2016 I attended various professional workshops and courses on the topics of sex and desire in relationships, infidelity, safety and trust. I continue to deepen my own professional development.

Individual Therapy

There are so many different reasons why people come to me for therapy. The common thread is that most people want to change something about their life or their situation, but don’t know how. Or they know how, but are afraid of the risk or consequences of taking action. In some cases, people want to grow (up) and develop, are curious in getting to know themselves more deeply and so come to therapy for this reason.

Maybe you too feel stuck in your life, or repeat the same old patterns and just can’t seem to take that step forward. Or you struggle with a difficult situation that you can’t solve on your own or perhaps don’t feel understood by the important people around you. Maybe life is getting you down right now, you feel depressed or are on the brink of a burn-out. Perhaps you’re suffering from a break-up or divorce, or have been living alone for a long time and long for a partner, and you’ve lost your confidence. Maybe your head is noisy and won’t stop (over) thinking. Whatever your situation, you may feel alone, sad, stuck and powerless. If you’re used to solving problems on your own, or struggle to turn for help, the thought of going to therapy, to talk to a complete stranger may seem a huge hurdle to overcome. Or just the medicine you need. I hope you can take that first step. Very often it can help to seek a professional who can support you to see your situation through a new or different lens, to help you explore your underlying needs, including what is holding you back so that you can start moving towards and creating the life you long for.
